Rip of Flim Flam Shop...Beware of this place...

by danagotripped

Do not take your car to this place or any AASTRO location. I took my car there for a warranty repair, they told me no problem, they could fix the car under my extended warranty. 3 weeks later my car was not fixed and they were trying to charge me $4750.00 for a transmission rebuild!! I called the manufacturer of my car and found out a brand new transmission was only $2600.00!!. When I told them this, they got nasty, when I went to get my car they charged me 525.00 and held my car hostage until I paid them for doing absolutley nothing! They gave me a trasmission in pieces in my trunk and when I took it to another transmission place I found out AASTRO had stolen parts from my transmission!! Beware of this price gouging rip off shop. Dishonest, and horrible customer service!

I took my car to Mr. Clutch, it was like night and day, my warranty paid the bill, only cost me the 100 dollar deductable, If I would have used AASTRO, I would have been out of pocket 2700.00 plus the 2000.00 my warranty would have paid them!! Go to Mr. Clutch instead, they are honest, and will treat you like a paying customer!!

Sincerly, Dana S.

saved me from selling my car

by catbound

When my 2004 ford focus started shifting funny i went to a nationwide transmission shop and the service manager went out to my car and drove it thirty feet in the parking lot and backed it up he told me the transmission would need to be rebuilt and it would cost about 2000 or 3000 dollars when i said i would sell the car before i would put that much into it he offered me 1200 which i almost accepted. After talking to another shop they actually sent me to aastro to get a free inspection they drove the car and put it up into the air then told me it needed an electronic diagnostic which costs $139 at first i thought that?s just a way to get some money out of me but they convinced me to go ahead with the diagnostic i was surprised when they called the next day and said the whole repair was going to be less then $500 so i went ahead with it and guess what i have been driving the car for the last 6 months without a problem I almost sold my car for $1200 to the guy at the other shop he had me convinced that i could not get anything for the car i.i have been to them twice since my first experience and they change my oil and have let me know that everything is still good i dont need any other repairs my mom like that they always call her in phoenix when i caome in to let her know how everything is i would give aastro a great rating and i tell everyone at school to take their cars there for any repairs

  • Pros: Clean shop, gave us a AAA discout, gave me a ride to school, car was fixed
  • Cons: none from me

Junk your car instead of going here

by babablacksheep

Hi all, thanks for reading this review

I visited this place with my car in running condition. with some noise on the front left wheel (recommeded by brake masters at grant road "who must be having a big cut of the money made by these guys").

The pain and suffering i have gone through during last few days has made me feel that it was my worst time in life that i visited this place called astro transmission.

These are some of the minor issues that I want to enlist

1. The guy who was handling things I guess his names is James, He was rude.

2. This guy will advice you do the worst thing.

3. These guys are lier.

Major comments:

1. They will open the transmission (no matter if this is necessary or not) and will give you an estimate

which will say

part = 1000$

labou= XXXX etc etc etc

the list is endless.

Finally If you insist what parts are needed, they will never tell you. When I visited this place, there was an old guy who told me that he was with toyota for 18 yrs in the machine shop. Later when I asked him if you can tell me the detail of what is needed, he said if you want to know the details you should have gone to some place in downtown where they open all the things. He finally said that he is not a technical guy (a lie) because he sarlier said that he worked with toyota for 18 yrs

They gave me an estimate of 3000$ for a car whose blue book value is 2500$. I was not willing to invest so much to I sold it on craigs list for 1000$. Later the guy who bought it looked at all the parts that were there on the trunk of the car and he later said that every things is fine and it just needs to be assembled properly. He took the car and the same transmission worked fine.

Lessons: How come the faulty parts worked fine (Astro was lieing)

None of the parts were damaged.

The estimate was just to make money, and not to service the customer.

Never in you dreams visit this place.

  • Pros: Third class place
  • Cons: don't go to this place

Best service I ever got from an Auto Repair shop!!

by jsmithson

Our car just stopped moving and I thought it was the transmission so I called Aastro Transmission & Auto Repair and talked with "Jimmy". After explaining what had happened, Jimmy asked a lot of questions that told me he was interested in helping us. (I'd called 2 other places and they were all ready to tell me how much it was going to cost to replace my transmission)

Anyway, Aastro towed the car to their shop. Jimmy called me to tell me it got there OK and that they would begin looking to find the problem. By the next day they found out that I had a bad "solanoid" (must have been all the big puddles we'd gone thru). So I didn't need a transmission replacement.

He replaced the solanoid (and got me to get all the maintenance stuff done, that I hadn't done) and now the car drives like it did when we first got it. (I just wonder if those other 2 places I called would have sold me a transmission rather than fixing the one I had?)

I had been using a couple of different places to handle minor repairs but after the way Jimmy and his crew took care of me - I'll be using Jimmy at Aastro for all my car stuff.

By the way, I read the other reviews of Aastro - after I had them do the work. If I had read them first, I wouldn't have gone there. However, I'm glad I did.

  • Pros: They kept me informed all the way

Aastro Transmisions - Speedway Location

by jwjwjwjw

I sent my vehicle to the Speedway location of Aastro to be checked out...it wasn't shifting automatically. They charged $100 for an electronic diagnostic. They told me the transmission had internal damage and they would have to charge $350 to take the transmission out, open it up and tell me how much it would be to fix it from there. They estimated anywhere from $800 to 'thousands'. Not wishing to write them a blank check to do whatever they wanted I had the vehicle returned and sold it at a $3600 loss. The new owner took it to another transmission shop, where they discovered the electronic shifting module was missing. $200 later the vehicle was running fine. There was no internal damage, and a change of the filter and fluid turned up no signs of damage. If Aastro had TRULY done an electronic diagnostic they surely would have noticed that part of the computer that controls the shifting was missing! They took my money and didn't do a thing for me but give me the run around and act like I was imposing on them.

When I filed a complaint they sent a response that was composed of lies - saying my vehicle was 'infestted with insects', that the 'battery was dead and needed replaced', that the vehicle 'was not road worthy' and 'his bill should have been much higher for the work we performed'. None of these statements were true by any stretch of the imagination. They also said the vehicle 'had been sitting for years' - it had only sat for 9 months in a clean, safe storage area. There were no insects. The battery was fine and the vehicle was road worthy.

I would not recommend Aastro to any person, not even a person I didn't like. They are rude, unprofessional and extremely overpriced. Any decent transmission rebuilder will be able to give you a quote up-front and tell you the maximum it could cost to fix - not ask for $100, then $350 to do something else before you get a final price. Steer clear of Aastro if you don't have money to burn!

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Rude staff, extremely high prices, no quotes before work is performed

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS

by jbriggs123

This place has been the nightmare that never ended. I went to have my transmission checked out, they told me a bunch of lies, totaling 4,000 dollars and they have had my transmission out 3 times now and to this day it still isn't fixed. My advice to anyone considering these lousy people go some where else!! You will regret it if you don't . Especially avoid using the speedway location the manager there is a real piece of work. He is rude and could careless about you or your car. Please take my advice. Avoid this company at all costs. I regret ever coming to this company.

  • Pros: They give you a ride if you need it
  • Cons: They take too long on repairs, repairs need to be done several times, rude staff

Beware!!!

by rabecca

This transmission shop took more than tree weeks to "rebuild" a transmission. My husband and I had to return the car three times because the work was not performed properly. The last time the shop had the car for four weeks. The manager uses a demeening tone with customers and lies. We asked for the number to contact the district manager and he told us there was no number to give us. We called another location and the manager was happy to give us a number to reach the district manager. I would push my car before I would aloow them to touch it again.
