Most humilitating experience ever

by Cindy Schaap at Citysearch

My son received a gift certificate for winning a costume contest to Verona. He was leaving town so we decided to use it. As it was the day prior to pay day I didn't have much cash. After we ate I presented the gift cedrtificate for payment. The owner refused to take it and threw it onto the table, he rudly then demanded money right then exact words were "I want my money now". There was not enough money in my checking account and I attempted to explain to him that I had counted on the gift certificate to pay for the meal. He just continued to demand money very loudly. Everyone in the restaurent was staring at us. I went into the bathroom and cried not knowing what to do. I ended up empting my purse onto the table and counted out pennies to help pay for the meal. The owner followed me out and said he knew whd had given the gift certificate out and he was mad at them. He also told me I should have showed him the gift certificate prior to eating so he could have OK'ed it. I will never go there again, to be treated like that is unacceptable especially when he knew how I had come by the gift certificate, just because he was mad at the individual that had given out the gift certificate is no excuse. What happenioned to customer service, wanting a customers to return, telling family and friends of the experience?

horrible

WOW!!! This Place is AWFUL! The carpeting is disgusting, and the owner is just rude. Do not support this place. We were the only ones there on a Friday night so I am guessing that word has already gotten out about how bad this place is. There was someone playing music, which might have been nice, but it wasn't Italian music. The food is definitely not homemade and the salad was like one of those bags of salad you get at the grocery store drowning in gross salad dressing. The best thing I can say about this place is that the water was wet. If you still think you want to go, make sure they are still in business, and good luck to you.

THE WORST RESTERAUNT I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO

by tjewell at Citysearch

This resteraunt was beyond a dissapointment especially on Valentines Day it was embarassing to see. First we get there and once we walk in the door no one greeted us for a good 5 minutes while everyone was hanging at the bar. Then we get seated and it takes 10 minutes for a BUSSER to take our drink order. After the waitress finally decides that she is ready to take care of us she takes our order. 10 nmin later we get a pitty basket with a bowl of butter thrown on top and under neath was two pitty little pieces of bread hard and nasty. Then 10 more minutes goes by and our waitress was still no where in site. I finally spoke to my boyfriend and we both agreed it was time to leave. SO we drank the rest of our wine and bounced and went to the CHEESECAKE FACTORY with wayyyyyy more better service and wayyyyyyyy more better food. Thank you cheese cake factory for hooking it up tonight. Veronas you need to shut down quick or remodel or something.

Overrated and Overpriced

by Kathy T at Citysearch

We went to at Verona on a Saturday night, as we were being seated, the hostess complained to us that the place was near empty because of a football game in town. This is true of any place in Tucson when there is a game, and, do I care? I thought we would get good service. We did get our water immediately and my husband ordered a glass of wine which came promptly. Then the long wait to have our order taken. Our wait person, who I believe was the owner Mel, spent an inordinate amount of time with the people at the next table who came in after us, maybe they were regulars. Placed our orders, then another long wait. While we were waiting the live singer's music was so loud we could barely have a normal conversation.

After the salad, the entree finally arrived and at first glance I could tell this was not going to be good. The rice pilaf looked like it had been turned out of a 1 cup measuring cup, formed and stuck together, no long grain rice visible, no flavor. The veal parmesan sauce looked like it has sat under a heat lamp for a couple of hours. The excessive breading, sauce and cheese hit the itsy bitsy piece of veal that was supposed to be under it, and when I did find the veal, it had the texture of a piece of top round steak. The veggies were great, nice and crisp, all this for $26.00.

My husband ordered the special, veal shank; it was very tender but a very small portion for the $30.00 charged for it. The linguini "bed" was also a very small portion; but the veggies were great!

Again, trying to get the wait persons attention to order desert, another challenge. But we did get a cannoli ordered to the tune of $7.00, I thought it would be good sized but it was the size of the one's we have bought at Nadine's bakery for $2.50. (Nadines is great, go there for Cannoli's).

Our tab before tax was $74.00, no way worth it! Next time I’ll go to Black Angus then Nadine’s for dessert.

  • Pros: None I can think of
  • Cons: Way too expensive for what you get

YUMMY!!!

by YUMMY77 at Citysearch

This is my favorite restaurant in tucson. The setting inside is very peaceful and romantic. In fact, when I was there I saw a gentleman propose to his girlfriend. They have a large selection of foods with very delightful desserts. My family and I go atleast a couple times a month. There is no excuse not to go this restaurant.

A bustling restaurant does not a great meal make

by mashiara at Citysearch

Our first and only visit to Verona was a severe disappointment considering the reviews we've received from friends, but that's only the beginning. We had reservations and were not surprised that the facility was packed to the rafters with patrons based on recommendations, but we were not seated for nearly 20 minutes and forced to stand in a very small entrance with a half dozen other people. After seating it was noticed that the tablecloth was dirty and the place settings were incomplete. The feeling of being rushed starts now. Everything is done at high speed and the assembly line mentality carries over to the whole experience.

That aside, I was hopeful about the cuisine. Sadly, it was false hope. As a lifetime Italian food aficionado, I've rarely had a worse meal in Tucson or elsewhere. Lasagna and cannelloni were both mealy, sweet, and thin. I hardly finished half and at $20 a plate that's a stretch. Waitstaff were curt, drinks were adequate, prices were astronomical for the area of town and production quality. It was the first and last time we'll visit. I strongly suggest you take your Italian appetite elsewhere.

  • Pros: Close to home
  • Cons: Prices, wait, terrible food

I would not recommend!

by c4dsmith at Citysearch

As a member of the Curves next door, I saw the sign advertising "now open for lunch" so my husband and I went there. I asked for a salad to replace the french fries and was advised that there were "no substitutions" but I could order a side salad. A chicken parmesan sandwich does dictate french fires! I took the french fries and advised that I would not return. The marinara tastes like "Ragu". This is not our first visit to this restaurant, we find the service "uneven" and the food "mediocre". As a far east sider, this is the only Italian food, but a further drive is advisable.

Now That's Italian!

by slpbigfoot at Citysearch

One of the best places for Northern Italian cuisine. It's famous for its chicken dishes, the most famous being the Pollo Bolla, a generous portion of slightly breaded chicken served with prosciutto ham and parmegiano potatoes. All dishes are homemade, the pastas as well as the dolces and the Napoleon Cake on the dessert menu. The interior is simple yet elegant the Italian way; on balmy desert nights, you can dine on the gorgeous patio complete with fountains and lights. The wine list is extensive with around 60 selections.

  • Pros: Staff, Food, Ambience, Entertainment
  • Cons: Parking cramped in shopping center
