Disappointment

by Courtney12345 at Citysearch

I frequently eat at Outback and have enjoyed it tremendously in the past. With this in mind, when it came time for me to obtain some raffle prizes for a charity event, I figured Outback would be a great place since they have such good food and service. I was sorely disappointed when I spoke to a manager and he told me that they are only willing to donate to customers who are willing to come in and have a meal (and maybe not even then!) He didn't even take into consideration that maybe I was a customer, or that CHARITY contributions don't necessarily mean getting something in return. I do enjoy the food, but I will not be visiting the Tucson Outback ever again.

  • Pros: Good food, service
  • Cons: Rude management, unwilling to donate to charity

Australian tchotchkes and brews give this quintessentially American restaurant a distinctive Down Under flavor.

In Short
Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilderness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appetizer with a following.

Service was a let down.

by gwbiker at Citysearch

Our party of 16 adult bikers visited the FootHills location a few days ago. In spite of our reservation, we waited one half hour for seating. Outback food and portions were satisfactory, however our one waitress for 16 people had to be constantly reminded to focus on her job -- that being servicing her customers. She appeared to be either overwhelmed by her duties, more interested in joining our conversations or deeply relieved by the 15% gratuity added onto each bill.

this is probably my favorite steak house. I would highly reccomend it to anyone looking for a great meal. my favorite appetizer is the awesome blossom and a great entree is the wallhalla pasta or a steak of course.

Salty as the Pacific Ocean...

by desktoptrouble at Citysearch

My first visit to an Outback in about 6 years... Was a little dissapointed. I saw someone mention the pepper which doesn't bother me much but the salt was atrocious. This chain started up after the Australian Tourism slogan "throw another shrimp on the barbie" which was dreamed up for the American audience.

In all actuallity a shrimp is called a prawn down-under and the flavors of Australia barely compare to the MSG ladden dishes you will receive here. Last time I visited Outback the lamb chops were $13 and today it is $22. At the time I thought the lamb was about as good as it gets for a grilled chop. After the sticker shock I went with a filet crusted with horseradish that was ok but cooked much more rare than I ordered it. Stay away from the blooming onion unless you are getting ready to cross the desert and want to harden your kidneys with lots of salt for the trip.

The server was very competent to Tucson standards and only spaced out one drink refil but that is nothing in comparison to most restaurants in Tucson. Booth seating seemed cramped for women since the table hits you right accross the chest. Beverages were cold and good to wash down all that sodium.

Frequent Flier

by foodie_to_the_babe at Citysearch

This Outback is by FAR the best I have ever eaten at. The waitstaff is attentive and very prompt. I recommend the Aussie Cheese Fries, the Prime Rib, and the Filet. Even if you just want a great burger it's the place to go- you can even have it cooked to your liking! Their desserts are sinfully good! You can never be let down by the Outback on Grant and Swan!

  • Pros: Good Parking, Attentive Waitstaff, EXCELLENT Food
  • Cons: A Wait w/o Call Ahead

Pepper anyone?

by macbug at Citysearch

I rarely go out to dinner. The novelty is enough to make up for any flaws of the food. Outback managed to outdo the novelty all together. To The chef must have emptied a whole can of pepper on everything. The onion blossom (I LOVE fried onions) was so spicey I had to dip it to dull down the pepper. The fries were so seasoned that my hubby took a bite and pushed them away. Again the pepper. The onion soup, usually my favorite was bland, but pepper free. The steak was pretty good. The texture was nice and the sauce was also nice. It did not even come close to making up for the bill we paied. I've gone to FAR better places and paied about 10 bucks less.

So if you like pepper feel free to wander over to the place near the Foothills mall. Otherwise, Steer clear!

  • Pros: Good meat, ok service, cute wait people
  • Cons: PEPPER on everything, Bad reddish lighting, not worth the $$

Best in the West

by majillle at Citysearch

Excellent steak, primerib, salad, drinks and service. You name it; it's above average at the Outback. By far my favorite place to go for steak in Tucson.

  • Pros: great service
  • Cons: crowded
