Great Italian food, healthy portions, beautiful decor

I recently visited this new location and was very happy. They food was just as great as their old location but unfortunately they do not have pizza! Other than that I have nothing but praise for this resturant. Good job and I will be back!

• Pros: Happy hour specials, great food
• Cons: No pizza or cheese ravioli

Sadly, this is NOT the same Amerenos it used to be...

Amereno's used to be our all-time favorite restaurant when it was located at 22nd/Sarnoff... we were heartbroken when it closed down and were eagerliy anticipating its reopening and relocation. During the interim, we searched and could not find another Italian restaurant in town that could even come close. Needless to say we were ecstatic to hear they finally reopened once again. Sadly however, this is not the same Amerenos that we had grown to love. There were a few things missing from the previous menu - along with my favorite dish, the ziti calabrese. These things may be forgiveable, however the service was absolutely terrible! We were promptly seated, however our waiter ignored us for the first 15 min then failed to take our drink order, then never refilled our drinks and ignored our repeated requests for more bread. The atmosphere was not as warm as the previous location, although they kept the live jazz music which was great. The food was ok, however the prices had increased while the portions were downsized. Sadly, the music was the best part of our dining experience. Our waiter was so incredibly disrespectful and rude - suffice it to say we will not be returning. In this economy, it's not worth spending our hard earned money to be treated so rudely and then pay for a pricey mediocre meal.

• Cons: The service was terrible, portions were small and pricey.

This food is very bad at the NEW location!

This food is the worst Italian food I have ever tasted! I think these post must be from the new Korean lady that owns this slop house!

They served ketchup tasting red sauce they called, "GRAVY"! I don't know who taught them to cook, but this stuff was very bad tasting!

I then tried the so called pizza. Can you say under cooked crust with tomato sauce right from the CAN!

Do not waste your gas to drive our there it is in a bad location and the food is just terrible!

Where did you eat? It was CLOSED in July of 2007

I'm not sure where the last reviewer ate, but Amereno's has not been at the 22nd Street location since September of 2006, when it closed in order to move to a different location. We have been waiting and waiting for it to re-open, because we love it. Rumor is that it will open in Sept. of 2008 at Grant and Country Club.

poor service mediocre food

Terrible service and they were not busy. Food tasted canned, not home made. Server acted as though there was no time for us. Very disappointed. Could not keep glasses full or bread on the table.

Romantic atmosphere

This place looks like just another cheap restaurant from the street, and then when you enter you are swept off your feet. It is so beautiful inside. Their food is the best, I have not returned to Olive Garden or any other Italian restaurant since finding this lovely little place. Their service is absolutely the best. I highly recommend trying their bread, oh my gosh it's so delicious. The plates of food are so large that two people could easily share one plate. I especially love the Chicken Parmesan or how ever that is spelt. The hardest part of eating here is watching all the delicious food go by. You are going to want to eat it all.

approaches ny italian more than others in tucson

for two years i have tried to replace the dining experiences i was spoiled by in manhattan and the bronx. but of course this is a ridulous proposition. i have accepted that i am in the desert now, and they just don't really do ny italian. so i cook at home a lot! but alas, there are nights one doesn't FEEL like cooking! encouraged by some reviews on this site, we drove east to explore the situation. my heart sank when we arrived at the empty strip mall and saw an ugly store front. "this is it?" i asked. i couldn't even smell a welcoming aroma, so expected the worst. however, upon entering i was encouraged by the attempt at roman decor, and the subtle beginnings of tantalizing fragrances. we ordered the least expensive bottle of red wine, which was served with elegant, stemmed glasses, and delightful. our generous salads had fresh and varied greens, and thankfully the balsamic vinagrette was tasty and herbal (not ruined by sugar, as so many restaurants around here have done). a basket of fresh, crunchy bread was kept warm with a linen napkin, and served with a creamcheese/butter/chive blend that we wanted more of, to take home for tomorrow. we both had the evening's special, a dish of pasta with magnificient marinara sauce, tender slices of sausage and chicken medallions, including visible, savory slices of peppers, onions and garlic, all cooked to soft, mouth-watering perfection! total bill for two $65. not bad.

p.s. not surprisingly, i learned upon exiting that "mamma amereno" moved here from back east. we're glad she's here.

Best Italian in Tucson

We eat here almost weekly because the food is excellent and the service is attentive, polite, and friendly and as quick as you want. If you want to take a little more time, they will accomodate. The portions are large. The food is tasty and cooked properly. The have a large variety to choose from. We have watched the restaurant grow and they have actually gotten better. They haven't forgotten who they are, they just got better at what they do. We have taken many people there and they enyoyed themselves. I highly recommed this restaurant.

Not What I Expected

Amereno's used to be a quaint little New York italian restaurant. They've expanded their restaurant obviously because their clientele base has expanded. Although this speaks well of the restaurant, I think they've forgotten how they've become so poplular. This quaint little restaurant is now overcrowded with tables, so much so, that we bumped elbows with the table behind us all evening. The service has become sub-par, the food overcooked and the authenticity has gone out the window. My chicken dish was so tough I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it and my angel hair was overcooked so much that the pasta broke into little pieces as I tried to eat it. For dessert, we opted to share a piece of their strawberry banana cheesecake. This cheesecake was grainy and overcooked. Our experience certainly was not worth the $100.00 we spent!
