Mas Fi, Brut Cava Spain NV The romans began growing grapes in Spain over 2000 years ago. And the masachs family has been cultivating vineyards and producing fine spanish cava just 25 miles south of Barcelona since the 1920s. From the heart of “el penedes,” the ancient wine region that breathes Mediterranean air and spreads north to the Montserrat mountain range, this straw-yellow sparkler displays scents of white flowers, ripe fruit and citrus. With fine, persistent bubbles, it offers fresh stone fruit, citrus and pleasant creamy flavors. Caesar would be proud!

Mionetto, Extra Dry Prosecco Di Valdobbiadene NV Francesco Mionetto did not just leave his grandsons a winery. He also left them his longstanding - relationships with the vineyard owners of the valdobbiadene area. These time-fused relationships are what assure that to this day Mionetto gets the region’s top quality prosecco grapes. (Old man Mionetto must have popped a lot of corks and poured plenty of bubbly for one and all.) Straw colored with brilliant reflections, the wine overflows with classic charmat-method prosecco-ness - and fruit flavors of crisp apple and peach.

Schramsberg, Blanc De Blancs North Coast, 2007/08 Talk about a storied winery. It’s been declared a monument by the california historical society. Robert louis Stevenson wrote about the place in his book Silverado squatters. President ford and queen Elizabeth II once kicked off a state dinner with a toast over a bottle of this blanc de blancs (literally, “white from white”), and Ronald Reagan once served it to Margaret thatcher. It’s been tickling the palates of celebrities, notables and dignitaries for decades. And for good reason: its dry crispness is a perfect counterpoint to its vibrant, fruity flavors.

Roederer, Brut Anderson Valley NV Roederer estate is owned by the 200-year-old French champagne house louis Roederer, which also makes the sublime Cristal. This elegant, chardonnay-dominated blend is made exclusively from the first pressing of grapes (known as the cuvee) from estate-owned vineyards. The wine is aged for up to three years in French oak casks before being bottled. The result is a rich and complex brut-style wine with concentrated flavors of pear, spice and hazelnut, and long, delicate streams of tiny bubbles. 91 points wine spectator and wine & spirits.

Robert mondavi, moscato d'oro napa valley, 2010 Here is the perfect wine for your "end-of-the-day-and-i-deserve-something special" mood. Crafted exclusively from muscat canelli grapes from the stags leap district in napa valley, it's intense, exotic and just a bit decadent. In the glass, exotic floral aromas of lemon blossoms and jasmine converge with notes of guava and lychee. Plush, abundant stone fruit flavors are complemented by shades of orange and spice and cleansed by a refreshing, citrusy finish. This wine is delightful on its own, or paired with any of our spicy entrees and appetizers.

Umberto Fiore, Moscato D'Asti Italy, 2010/11 Moscato has taken a revered place in the wine world as the hottest varietal on the market. It's been a long time coming for Luigi and Aldo manfredi. For over 30 years, the two brothers have worked together to make the wines their grandfather guiseppe made with Umberto Fiore. Semi-sparkling with a famously complex bouquet, this wine is light and refreshing. Delivering seductive aromas of honeysuckle and orange blossoms, with sweet flavors of peaches and melons. It’s molto delizioso. Or as we like to say, yummy!

Beringer, White Zinfandel California NV You’ve got to love‏ a great pink wine. It does not apologize. It does not make excuses for itself. It simply moves beyond any preconceived notions you may have of its kind, and lavishes you with brilliant flavors and aromas — fresh raspberry, citrus and melon. It pairs beautifully with all kinds of foods, and keeps its head held high.

Gunderloch, Riesling Spatlese Rheinhessen Diva Germany, 2010/11 Gunderloch estates was founded by Carl gunderloch, a banker with a keen sense of observation and a nose for wine. On his daily trek to the bank, Carl searched for vineyard properties dappled with sunlight. As a result of these shrewd acquisitions, his heirs own unquestionably the best vineyards in nackenheim. Wine spectator gives this wine 92 points and we could not agree more. Close your eyes, inhale deep and you’re strolling through tangerine and lemon orchards. One sip and you’ll savor this wine’s delicious finish with suggestions of vanilla and marzipan. Now this is a glass you can invest in.

Banfi, Sparkling Wine Rosa Regale Acqui Italy, 2011 We're partial to this‏ lovely, ruby-red wine for the cocktail hour. But then again, it would be excellent with a spicy appetizer or a main course and yes, with dessert as well! On the nose, it’s vivacious yet playful, with aromas of rose petals and fresh berries. On the palate, it offers a soft, elegant entrance with flavors of sweet raspberries and strawberries. this fun, slightly sweet wine with its fine bubbles marries well with a wide range of flavors, including chocolate.

Loosen Bros., Riesling Mosel Dr. L Germany, 2011/12 “I want to taste the depth of the old vines. I want to experience the character of the vintage. I want authenticity; without it, a wine is simply another beverage.” These are the words of wine-maker Ernst loosen. He and his brother Thomas created this elegant and vibrant riesling, evoking the steep, slate-soil vineyards of the mosel valley. Aromas of luscious pear, peach and apples burst forward in the nose, making way for refreshing and juicy flavors of pear, apricot, lime and mango.

Kris Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie Italy, 2010/11 A modern twist from a legendary family of wine makers. award-winning wine maker Franz Haas, a seventh-generation vintner from alto adige, has used his formal oenological education in Germany to modernize his family’s winery. The result is nothing short of spectacular. With a luminous yellow color and brilliant green reflections, this wine flirts with your eyes. Lovely floral aromas with notes of tangerine, honey and almonds draw you closer. Well-balanced with a smooth, crisp finish that surprises the palate with spicy notes. A remarkably seductive wine and a superb value.

Vinedos Terra Noble Sauvignon Blanc Central Valley Chile, 2012/13 Noble earth, indeed! with the atacoma desert to the north, Patagonia to the south, the Andean range to the east, and the pacific ocean to the west, a Mediterranean climate has blessed chile’s central valley with almost perfect conditions for growing grapes, particularly sauvignon blanc. Pale lemon green in color, this sublime white shows intensely aromatic notes of lemon citrus, pineapple and fresh cut grass. On the palate, it is brimming with citrus green apple notes along with vibrant acidity and a long finish.

Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough New Zealand, 2010/11 At the top of New Zealand’s south island, mountains soar, and valleys lay in broad stripes at their feet, crisscrossed by idyllic waterways and dotted by vineyards. Here, the sauvignon blanc vines of cloudy bay channel the characteristics of their spectacular surroundings. This release earned kudos for its vibrant aromatics, fine structure and layers of pure fruit flavors. with its scents of grapefruit, orange zest, mango and a sweet green fruit character, the pleasures of cloudy bay are, well, clear.

Villa Wolf Pinot Gris Pfalz Germany, 2011/12 Grown and harvested in the region known as the “tuscany of Germany” this pinot gris is steeped in heritage. In the early 18th century, it was in the pfalz region that the variety was first vinified. In 1996, Ernst loosen took over the j.l. wolf vineyards to make full-bodied, traditionally crafted pfalz wines, rich in flavors of ripe fruit and stone. Danke, Ernst. Medium full-bodied, this pinot gris delivers tropical fruit aromas and flavors, yet its dry style makes it appealing to anyone looking for a food-friendly wine with serious depth.

Maso Canali Pinot Grigio Trentino Italy, 2010/11 There’s a saying in‏ trentino: “pane e vino fanno un Bel bambino.” It means “bread and wine make a beautiful baby.” This gives you a sense of the importance of wine in this region, and the life-enhancing qualities of these grapes — a portion of which local wine-makers dry on racks to concentrate the sugar and the flavors. With a brilliant, light gold color and flavors of nectarine and citrus, this wine is as charming as a round-cheeked Italian child.

Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough New Zealand, 2010/11 Kim Crawford thinks small. grape-sized, to be precise. His goal is to be there at the moment when the grape is at its peak ripeness, preserve that moment in the bottle, and have it come alive in the glass. Derived from the French word Sauvage ("wild") and blanc (“white”), the sauvignon blanc grape comes alive here with a color of straw-green, and aromas of ripe citrus, tropical fruits and New Zealand herbs. With its consistent palate of juicy tropical flavors, this wine has snagged a spot on wine spectator’s top 100 the past few years.

Aptly named, this wine will take you to faraway lands fragrant with exotic asian spice notes, from jasmine and clove to star anise enveloped in kefir lime. One sip and you’ll feel like royalty. Long, supple and lush flavors of lemon curd, tropical guava and passion fruit promise to take you away.

Hanna Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley, 2011/12 The russian river valley is a long way from Syria, but Dr. Elias Hanna had a dream when he was a little boy on his family’s farm to find a tranquil place with promise. And he did just that. After 25 years, this family-owned winery has created a legacy of exceptional wines. a glass of this delightful sauvignon blanc, a pale golden straw color reminiscent of the farm, displays delightful aromas of kumquat, kaffir lime and orange blossoms, laced with hints of vanilla bean. The palate of mango, peach and pomelo is complex, full and absolutely delicious.

Chardonnay

Canyon Road California NV Inspired by the scenic roads that wander through california’s stunning wine country, this is the wine to take on a summer excursion with the convertible top down. This friendly chardonnay has wonderfully fresh aromas of ripe green apple and citrus. The mouthfeel is creamy and rich yet refreshing, giving way to notes of vanilla, meyer lemon, and tropical fruit flavors. Road trip!

Il Borro Tuscany Lamelle Italy, 2010/11 Salvatore ferragamo, grandson of the legendary shoe designer, is the owner of this winery, and lamelle is the only white wine he makes. This is chardonnay at its most elegant and refined. Pared down, but perhaps even more luxurious than a fine white burgundy. Aged 6 months in the bottle, it is rich with flowers and fresh yellow fruit, notably peach. The finish brings hints of white pepper and vanilla.

Merryvale Napa Valley Starmont, 2010/11 Made from the hand-selected jewels of vineyards throughout napa valley, including the oak knolls district and carneros, here’s a chardonnay that truly shines. It’s aged in oak for 9 months sur lie (on top of spent yeast…sometimes we wonder how these techniques were ever discovered) to round out the texture and enhance complexity — while still delivering a great big mouthful of lip-smacking fruit.

Women of the Vine Central Coast, 2010/11 The first wine makers were probably women (the men were off somewhere hunting woolly mammoths). Today, women are among the most creative and progressive forces in the world of wine. Women of the vine is a collaboration of sustainable growers and of wine makers like Alison crowe, who makes this pure, oak-free chardonnay from santa barbara and monterey fruit. She packs it with aromas of lemon-grass, pineapple and honeysuckle and flavors of passion fruit and honeydew.

Mer Soleil Silver Monterey County Unoaked, 2011/12 For years, stainless steel has been the only alternative to oak barrels for aging chardonnay. Charlie Wagner II, the wine maker at mer Soleil, is using the latest technology from france — small cement tanks with smooth, stone-like interiors. This semi-porous material "breathes" like oak, which concentrates and enriches the wine. Yet it adds no oak character. This chardonnay tastes amazingly pure and clean, and it comes in a very cool ceramic bottle. Heads will definitely turn if you order this wine tonight.

Sonoma-Cutrer Sonoma Coast Russian River Ranches, 2010/11 The chardonnay grapes of the russian river ranches must have done something good in a past life to have been blessed with such perfect growing conditions now. The privileged soil, climate and vintage create a chardonnay that is a study in elegance and complexity: aromas of baked apple, jasmine and honey balanced with vibrant flavors of green apple, lemon cream, and pineapple. Straightforward at first, then, like an old soul, evolving, developing and finishing gracefully.

Kendall-Jackson California Vintner's Reserve, 2010/11 There is a reason this is the leading selling chardonnay in America for the last 20 years running. Beautifully integrated tropical flavors such as pineapple, mango and papaya with citrus notes explode in your mouth. These flavors delicately intertwine with aromas of vanilla and honey to create depth and balance throughout. A hint of toasted oak rounds out the long, lingering finish.

Indaba Western Cape South Africa, 2011/12 This chardonnay makes it easy to love wines from south Africa. For one thing, it’s been a wine spectator “best buy” for four years in a row. (A california chard of comparable quality would be priced very differently.) For another, it’s downright yummy. Bright tropical fruit aromas lead to a crisp, fresh palate with flavors of apple, pear, honey and pineapple. A gentle kiss of oak adds a creamy butterscotch nuance and wonderful depth. This wine is a terrific match for a wide range of dishes, and a soul mate for our sweet chile calamari.

Franciscan Napa Valley, 2009/10 From famed oak ville‏ region in napa valley, this venerable winery reaches back over more than three decades of excellence. Committed from the beginning to the artisanal approach of small-lot wine-making, Franciscan estate vineyards are located in the sweet spots of southern napa valley. This rich and round chardonnay has vibrant aromas of fuji apple, ripe pear and nectarine with hints of vanilla and hazelnut. Bright pear-apple notes with citrus and honey flavors display rich, crème brulee highlights that lead to a creamy, lingering finish.

A to Z Wine Works Oregon, 2010/11 “Hello, my name is oregon pinot,” this wine screams. Blended from the fruits of at least sixteen different oregon pinot noir vineyards, a to z lets the personality of the region’s pinot grapes shape this wine in their own image. Deep, pure and overflowing with berries, it gives you the minerals, the spice and the red and blue berries of its home turf, while negotiating a truce between richness and power.

Angeline California, 2011/12 Oh, Angeline. Your enticing ruby red color conjures up images of full-figured muses of old and the artists they inspired. One could imagine Picasso sipping a glass as the genius stroked his paintbrush against a willing canvas. Lush with aromas of vanilla and spice with bold fruit flavors of raspberries and ripe plums. One sip of this supple wine and you’re in love. From vineyards in santa barbara, sonoma and mendocino counties this pinot noir may be grown in regions with cool daytime temperatures, but make no mistake — it's a hottie.

Mark West California, 2010/11 Pinot for the people! This is mark west’s rallying cry. This winery believes that great, affordable pinot, one that’s equally at home on a celebration table as it is on a picnic table, is not a luxury, but a right. And so their revolution has brought us this vintage, worthy of the name california, with its fruity-fruit-fruit aromas and flavor profile — rich cherry pie, raspberry preserves and ripe plum on the nose, and juicy dark red raspberry, fresh cherry pie and cola berry on the palate.

Three Saints Santa Maria Valley, 2009/10 The “three saints” represents the three california central coast appellations where this family-owned boutique winery has vineyards: santa maria valley, santa rita hills, and the santa Inez valley.
