In Short – Established in 1977, the Claim Jumper draws families, seniors and professionals with a mix of Old-West decor and a reliable menu of American classics. Logs, corrugated tin, rock and warm fireplaces embellish the unique ambience. Signature plates include hickory-smoked pork ribs, rotisserie chicken and barbecued beef tri-tip; the menu also offers tortilla chicken soup, potpies, wood-fired pizzas, and the popular six-layer Chocolate Motherlode Cake. The saloon features appetizers and the restaurant's own brews.
perfect example of overindulgence, waste (waist) and lack of vision

This is a chain. Surely you've been there. You haven't? OK you walk into a nice stone foyer. It feels good and the greeter is amicable. Then you are brought into the restaurant for seating, and you go either left or right. To the right is a massive seating area , a decent bar space, and several exits to an outdoor area. To the left is an even far more massive seating area. Room for hundreds of gluttons. It's not that each area doesn't feel private....it's just MASSIVE. There's seating and people everywhere! The booths don't seat the average person, they are made for professional eaters. Kids are visibly uncomfortable in the overly spacious booths (arenas). The food selection is MASSIVE. The portions are MASSIVE. I love food and I like to eat it with gusto. I've been here 4 times and each time, my "doggie bag" has lasted me two more meals. What are they doing with the extra portions that people don't eat and leave there? I've seen the recently vacated tables....tons of food left there.
The food is average, really. There is nothing at all special about it. You can get this food anywhere and you could cook it at home if you cared to take the time. While it is true that I have enjoyed the fish and chips there, tasty really, I certainly couldn't finish it and there was 2/3 a plate of fries left over that my heart was pre-palpitating over. The menu is overwhelming, the largest I've seen anywhere and it takes **way too long** to go through when you're also trying to hang out with company or settle the kids. The drinks are overpriced. Also, it occurred to me the other day that I have never had a dessert there. I wonder why?? bloat.
- Pros: lots of food, enough for everyone.
- Cons: mediocre quality, hangout for American Consumerists
Worst food ever
by Lisaloves69
Food is bland, cold and greasy - possibly reheated. The portions are out of perportion, either way to large or too small. The chocolate cake is enough for 6, yet a starter salad is extra on most meals. They claim the steaks are midwestern corn fed beef, but they taste like local beef soaked in a tenderizer. They are definately not the same beef you would get in Ohio or Kansas. I have had much better at Pinacle Peak. Wait staff is untrained or they just dont give a dam. Four of us went on a friday night and the place was 3/4 empty, yet the service took over an hour. The check was over 100.00 without alcohol. No wonder they call this the Claim Jumper, I definatly felt riped off. I don't expect this place will be open much longer.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Poor Food, Poor service, Overpriced
Horrible Experience---Waste of Money
by dlw11
Very poor experience; took large family group (13 adults) with reservation on a Sunday afternoon. The store was half empty but service was horrific, was told they would provide 2 servers, yet only one was available, everything took forever, over 30 minutes for salads and an hour for meals.
But the quality of food when finally arrived was horrible; 2 orders of basic chicken undercooked, shrimp served cold etc... very poor quality food, worse than expected at a Dennys or diner type restaurant. left 2 members of our party ill shortly after. Complaints to manager did little but create anxiety with him,
Service was comparable to food, had to ask for everything, basic condiments were not furnished with meal, just horrible overall experience and waste of afternoon. Will never repeat.
- Pros: none
- Cons: total waste of time
