I was at The Cool Church last Wednesday night for what they call ExL. They do two 8-week sessions a year. Each session starts off with a Q&A. It was amazing. People put all types of questions about the Bible, specific life situations, personal issues, and even some funny ones that got everybody laughing. It was great. Pastor David had never seen these questions before and it was some great biblical information. Loved it.
Great Church! – To the last publisher, You are so correct! The Bible is a book about god and his laws that he has set. His rules as our creator. In the bible he makes it very clear!
New International Version (NIV)
22 ?`Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.
TCC or Cool Church is just making a fact straight from the Bible. If you are going to follow the bible as a christian you do not pick and chose what you like and do not like in it. Being a Homosexual is a detestable sin to god, as you can read right there in the bible. So, before you trash talk Pastor Dave for talking about this very dificult subject, know that he is pulling it directly from the bible, the book about god, the book about his laws and rules set for us.
My family and I attended TCC for the first time a couple weeks back as we just moved here from Indiana. We love the modern way Pastor Dave teaches and love how much we get out of his lesons. Keep it up Pastor Dave!
Miserable in Church – April 5, 2011
My family and I attended the Cool Church last Sunday. It was for my husband and me, the first time we had gone to church in more than 25 years. Forty five minutes into the teaching, I remembered why we stopped attending a regular church.
The beginning of the service was fine; music celebrating love for God. Then we broke away to Pastor Dave who began teaching Jeremiah. I have never attended a more negative, judgmental and empty feeling sermon in my life. So much so, that I was compelled to call the church and question the tone and sentiment of the teaching.
I received a return call two days later from a woman who explained that the church teaches from the Old and New Testament. Pastor Dave’s teaching included saying that a song by a pop star about one being beautiful no matter what others think was offensive to him after he saw the video that included “cross dressers and transsexuals.” He then added homosexuals and pediophiles to the list on his own. Yes, pedophiles is misspelled but that is spelled exactly as he pronounced it. I asked the woman if he often equated homosexuals with pedophiles and received an answer along the lines of, “Well, we may not be the church for you but the world needs people with your kind heart…”
When it was clear that this kind of distraction was the only answer to my questions I was going to receive, I suggested that Pastor Dave learn how to pronounce pedophile and use the term transgender instead of transsexual in an effort to minimize how offensive his teaching is.
Is there a chance Pastor Dave could be wrong about the way he has interpreted the biblical texts sometimes used to condemn homosexual orientation?
The Bible is a book about God -- not a book about human sexuality.
The homosexuals I know have not rejected God at all; they love God and they thank God for his grace and his gifts. Nor have the homosexuals that I know given up heterosexual passions for homosexual lusts. They have been homosexual from the moment of their earliest sexual stirrings. They did not change from one orientation to another; they just discovered that they were homosexual. It would be unnatural for most homosexuals to have heterosexual sex. And the homosexual people I know do not lust after each other any more than heterosexual people do... their love for one another is likely to be just as spiritual and personal as any heterosexual love can be.
Most of all, NONE OF THEM ARE PEDOPHILES.
The lesson we all need to learn is; God doesn't want us squabbling over who is "in" and who is "out." God wants us to love one another. It's God's task to judge us. It is NOT our task to judge one another.
But that is apparently not what The Cool Church agrees with or teaches.
