Desert Sports has lost its appeal over the years. Employees never clean the equipment during business hours, if they clean at all, and members rarely wipe off the equipment after use. The weight room is also very disorganized and the equipment is somewhat crowded together. Membership policies are indeed questionable; an unfortunate and common practice in the fitness industry. Tucson has much cleaner, cheaper, newer, better maintained, and more organized gyms to choose from.
The employees are very nice. However, the new contract agreement is terrible. I like others here signed up and mid-contract the gym changed to using ASF international. ASF requires 90 days notice, even though my contract had ended AND I was moving out of town for school. Which equals 3 months of unused, unnecessary months charges and $100 dollars down the drain. I would have signed back up with DSF when i moved back if I hadn't been ripped off in the end. it puts a damper on the rest of the experience. I recommend since they are a local business, they keep things local.
DSF is nothing but a bunch of money sucking clowns. Get ready for the worst customer service experience ever. The woman who works at corporate shouldn't have a job, she hung up on me. The owner is a spineless individual who hung up on me after I told him my younger brother (17) had cancer. I signed a 14 month contract that rolls over to month to month after the 14 months are up, they do not tell you they require a 60 day cancellation period. It happens to be at month 12 my brother is hospitalized for 39 days with a massive tumor. Two months later I call to cancel the account. They tell me its a legal binding contract and I have to pay them no matter what. I have paid DSF for 14 months at 30 per month which comes out to $420. I have no problem paying them for the 14 months, its the last $60 which really turns into $90 because now you have to pay for the month which you are canceling. They send you to ASF International to cancel your account. I found out DSF switched to ASF midway through my contract agreement, now I am playing by their rules which is total BS. ASF International shouldn't even be in business (search their reviews). I tell them I paid 1st and last upfront. They say show me in the contract. It costs you $25 for a copy of your contract. So I tell ASF int. to mail me a payment and I'll write them a check. They say there is a $25 payment fee to mail me anything and that DSF is giving me a discount to pay by card. I recommend you go to the YMCA or LA Fitness for the same price; they have a lot more to offer and they don't hide things in their contracts to suck a hundred bucks or so out of every customer.
After being a member for over 3 years I canceled my membership and was told that even though I was a member for 3 years and fulfilled my one yer contract I still had to give a 2 months notice to quit. Then When I asked for a copy of my signed contract they said that I would have to pay for a copy. So I canceled my membership and changed my card number. now they are trying to send me a bill for 155.00 for a 60 fee. And they still will not give me a copy of my singed agreement!
Terrible! Please do not join. They were very rude to me and misled me about the 60 day clause during the interview and sign up. A woman at the corporate offices hung up on me when I called to ask for a copy of my contract.
Lousy contract and super hot gym. If you cancel, don't try to do so before your one year is up (yes you have ot be there for a year). Then youhave to wait an additional 2 months in order to leave. so they are getting you for an additional 2 months. ON top of that, the cardio room is so hot, you have to find a machine that is near or under a fan because if not, you are miserable before you even get a workout it. Been there at 6am and it still feels like a sauna (okay in winter)not so much. They have expended their semi private (watch out that costs you about $50 more a month on top of regular fees) and that it in the cardio room so you have to hear the class going on , and get even hotter from all of those extra bodies. Not worth it, for same price you can go to a bigger gym close by, pay only month to month and not have to deal with Darla (who needs to retire).
Be Careful with Contract and Customer Service. Do not ever sign Desert Sports & Fitness contracts! Desert Sports was not willing to step up and return the funds owed to my 87 year old mother, who could not medically continue her exercise program Desert Sports claimed my mother never presented the doctors medical order to discontinue exercise. Desert Sports continued to charge her checking account $30 per month for 7 months after the contract ended and 9 months after the doctors medical order was presented to them. There is a 25% cancellation fee when the membership is cancelled before the end of the contract, Based on that they still owe her $144. However, Desert Sports will not even share in the blame that their employee lost the doctors medical order. Be careful especially seniors!
The Best Gym in Town!!!!.
I have loved every minute at Desert Sports and Fitness.
My daughter started Speed School over a year ago at Desert Sports. I would wait for her to finish her class, I kept saying to my self, “Wow look at all the stuff they have here, why am I still at LA Fitness”? So I started talking to the staff, by the way is very knowledgeable not to mention friendly. I decided to dump LA Fitness and join Desert Fitness. Best move I made.
When you walk in, Kelsey is the first to great you with a Hello and she even knows your name, impressive. I love all the classes they have to offer. I am in Semi Private Training with Katrina for now and just love the one on one time I get with her, not to mention she kicks my butt.
Antonio, the manager is something else. He knows so much about health and fitness and loves to share with you all the latest fads and techniques. In fact he’ll say “hey Dorree come see what I just learned.
I don’t want to forget all the rest of the staff, they are all so very nice and never walk by without saying Hi, or how ya doing. If your thing about joining a Gym anytime soon Desert Fitness should be at the top of your list to check out. You’ll love it…
Dorree
Awesome Gym!!. I joined DSF in Sept and have not been disappointed. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. My goals were not only fitness but health related too. I attend the semi-private personal training classes and love my trainer, Katrina. She motivates when needed and pushes you to do your best without sounding like a drill sergeant. Thanks to Katrina and Antonio I have been able to transform myself into a healthier person all around.
Cancellation Policy.
I recently purchased a membership at Desert Sports and wanted to let everyone know that the cancellation policy is not as bad as the previous comments are stating. I policy was explained to me in detail when I signed up. I had asked too about what happens in case I have to move during the middle of my contract. They explained all my options to me before I signed the agreement and I even re-read the contract after I got home, and there are no hidden fees or agendas. Read and ask questions when you're signing up and you'll be fine.
The gym was under a different management when these other comments were left. I assure you that the management in place now is sincere and dedicated to helping people get fit.
