Low water-use plants for a low-maintenance yard.. The Scene
Gardening in Tucson is hard enough: You're planting in a place that gets about eight inches of rain a year. And city water isn't cheap. You'll not only do the local water table a favor by buying less-thirsty greens, you'll also be helping the disabled. All sales at Desert Survivors proceeds benefit disabled children and adults in Tucson.
The Goods

This nursery has all the Sonoran Desert plants, shrubs, trees and cactus you'll need for a natural-looking, well cared-for yard. The native plants are almost guaranteed to give you a green thumb. Manager Peter Gierlach is known as Petey Mesquitey to fans who listen to his local gardening radio show. He can tell you which plants will attract the hummingbirds and butterflies that desert-dwellers love to see.
