Ever the Standard in Tucson. Carne Seca Tostada is like heaven on a taco shell with great refreid beans on top of the gently crisped shell covered with a generous amount of sublty spicy carne seca and a mountain of shredded lettuce and a bit of tangy cheese on top. Cover it all with their great spicy salsa, order a cold beer and head home happy!

Look for the bullfighter. You'll see what I mean. Rocketing down Grant Road, you might miss this place. It's not small, but its non-descript and set back some from the street and if youre not careful you could pass it by . . . if it werent for the life size matador and bull (anatomically correct, I might add). This is the beacon for excellent Mexican food. They do a mean carne seca. I keep meaning to try new things, but their carne seca has me hooked. Nobody seems to have heard of carne seca in Phoenix, where Im from. Its a simple concept: air dried beef, shredded, mixed with onions, tomatoes, and other stuff, and served in burritos, tacos, or by itself. A couple of places in Tucson do it very well: El Charro and Casa Molina. Im sure there are others, but there are only so many meals in a day.

Lard is dead, long live Canola oil! Recent oil change aside, Casa Molina remains an old-guard, classic Sonoran restaurant.. The Scene:
Casa Molina endures as one of the city's real veterans. Founded in 1947, Casa Molina's chimichangas may be a little skinnier than elsewhere, but everything else on the menu is long, chubby, or otherwise amply proportioned, and meat eaters laud the smoky carne seca. Casa Molina has locations at 6225 E. Speedway, 3001 N. Campbell Avenue, 4240 E. Grant Road, and in the Foothills Mall at 6781 Thornydale Road . Most locations offer live entertainment toward the weekend, but only the Speedway restaurant has its own curio shop.
