Won't take state issued IDs. This bar won't allow people with a state issued ID in, it must be a driver's license or passport. So basically it you don't drive or travel internationally this bar doesn't want your money. It's not that great of a bar to begin with, I always found it boring, but the stupidity of refusing a state issue ID is so annoying it makes me write this bar off completely. Especially when there's much better places to go near by like O'Malleys or Maloney's.

Best Bar in Town!. The Shanty is my absolute favorite bar in town. I love the staff-they are welcoming and remember your name and your drink quirks. The menu is very extensive, it seems like they have every beer one could imagine asking for. There are plenty of pool tables for entertainment if you don't want to just sit and chill, and the patio is kept warm by heaters and allows for more intimate conversations. The popcorn is a nice touch and adds a little spice to the night!

The Best Bar in Tucson!!!. I used to only frequent the Shanty once in a while, but have recently become a weekly regular. The atmosphere is great and the staff is even better. You are welcomed with big smiles and on a first name basis and the bartenders remember your personal quirks regarding the drinks you order. The Shanty is my weekend home and the place to be!

Great beer and Great Staff. I am at the Shanty every week on Thursday when I host the Tucson meeting of Drinking Liberally from 6pm to about 10pm. Our meetings are open to the public, so please stop by.

The staff is wonderfully accommodating and friendly to the crowd of liberal drinkers that show up. I have never been less than impressed by their dedication to helping us have a great time.

The beer selection is great with some wonderful choices on tap. We usually take over the back patio which is very pleasant place to spend an evening though there are some transitory noise issues with the nearby railway. Remember there is no food served other than popcorn, so don't come hungry.

Later in the evening the bar tends to fill up and get a bit busier and nightclubby and is a great place to gather with friends.

Great atmosphere. The Shanty can get crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, but if you get a spot on the patio you'll be set! The waitresses actually remember you're out there and the drinks are resonably priced. Great place to go and have a beer on a nice night.

best beer selection, worst staff ever. this place has an incredible selection of beer. i found all of my Belgian favorites here. unfortunately, their staff is absolutely atrociously unfriendly and downright rude. they told one of our friends that they never want her to come back there again... because she was drinking a beer bought by someone else. we are still trying to make sense out of it. it's too bad. they lost 8 customers and everyone else we know.

Enjoy a diverse selection of brews on the lush, winter-friendly patio of this beautifully finished taproom.. The Scene
The Shanty has been a Fourth Avenue beer-connoisseur's favorite for many years. It manages to appeal to the university crowd while also luring professors and non-university thirtysomethings.

The Booze
A selection of close to 100 international beers is The Shanty's main claim to fame, though often they have only 80 brands or so actually in stock. This is the place to try that Indonesian brew you read about in a magazine or one of the distinguished British styles we all hold dear. Selections can be expensive, however, and paying up to $5 for that special beer is common.

While You're There
The Shanty has pool tables and a classy bar, with a wonderful patio at the rear. Space heaters make even midwinter patio nights comfortable, and the service is good, especially considering the nightly volume of thirsty patrons.
