Avoid at all costs!!!. Me being Italian [and from the east coast] have had my share of great Italian fare. Carusos had the "feel" of an italian restaurant, but thats where it ended. my wife and I had a simple pasta dish [red sauce] which was brown [burned] and loaded with garlic powder! instead of fresh garlic!!, which caused us both indigestion for the rest of the day. the waiter was

"stoned" or strange and indifferent. and I believe Im done with carusos, and will not recomend it to anyone I know. even a chain like the "macaroni grill" can do better!!!.

not impressed. We went with a group of 11 for a birthday and had a so-so experience. The service was horrible, but we were a large group, so I was ready to forgive that until I got my meal. The Shrimp Mediterranean was in a runny, over salted, generally disgusting white sauce and the shrimp, although they were a nice size, were overcooked. The homemade salad dressing was delicious although they only offer a side salad portion. The garlic toast was alright, too, but it would be pretty hard to mess that up. The dishes served with red sauce, especially the baked dishes (for example the Chicken Parmesan and Stuffed Shells) were pretty tasty, but nothing so great that you couldn't do just as well on your own at home or from a frozen meal. Over all, I'd say not worth it.

Family-style Italian-American food has attracted diners to this homey setting near the university since the 1930s.. The Scene
Indoors, red-checkered tablecloths and wall murals of the Italian countryside decorate a series of small, low-lit rooms of an old house turned restaurant. Outside, strings of colored lights dangle from the white porch roof and a border of towering cypress trees circles the huge backyard. This is a place to relax, sip a glass of vino and chat with family.

The Food
No surprises, just straightforward, home-cooked lasagna, pizza, spaghetti and eggplant Parmesan. The shrimp Mediterranean is in a white garlic sauce, or choose between the marinara and Caruso's special sauce. The only appetizer, a saladlike antipasto, comes in sizes for two, four, six or eight. Other choices are also simple: one salad, one soup--minestrone--and four desserts, all homemade. The nutty crunch of almond and coconut in the tortoni makes it a favorite.

Do not waste your time. My family and friends visited Caruso on Saturday, September 17, 2005 for my 51st birthday. I was so excited to go, having always seen it from 4th ave driving by. The service was horrible. The food tasteless and embarrassing, as I was the one who made the reservations. All of us there have had Italian food in other states, grew up on it actually, and this was the worst of all. DO NOT GO!!!

Frozen Entrees Taste Better. I was Very disappointed. I can't believe anyone would give this place a good review. The atmosphere is the only thing this place has going for it. The salad was a half handful of iceburg lettuce with a dripy white sauce. The shrimp and clam with white sauce linguini was too watery and everytime I attempted to take a bite the "sauce" would splash up onto my shirt no matter how careful I was. I tried a piece of pepporoni pizza and it was very salty. Crust reminds me of Chef-Boy-RD. Dessert was Gelato that resembled orange juice concentrate. Bad experience. Trust me.

Never again!. If you like white sauce that tastes and looks like grey gravy, canned vegetables, and a red sauce that rivals Lean Cuisine eat here. If not, ignore the lines outside on the weekend, if you're not from Tucson, you won't like Caruso's!

Italian?. This restuarant may have been good at one time, but not in my lifetime! The food is hardly authentic. It is not the microwave crap at the olive garden, but it taste like a homemade project that failed! I am pretty sure that a chef is not doing to cooking- if they are, they should be ashamed!

MMMM Good!. This always a fun place to eat and get some good tasting Italian food at a good price. It's location is key if you wish to go get some brews after dinner.

Don't Waste Your Time. Let me set the scene: The last time I ate there we sat outside. The fountain wasn't working, the landscaping needed some work and it was obvious that the place need a fresh coat of paint.

Now the food...if you like watery lasgna then this is your place. The veal parmigana was more like lunch meat parmigana. The seafood dishes aren't bad but the ones that they are noted for just aren't up to the rave review people give them.
