The Scene: – Brassy and crowded, Wildflower may remind you of certain Los Angeles restaurants; this is not surprising considering the presence of chef Christopher Cristiano, formerly of Wolfgang Puck's Spago. "New American" entrees range from elegantly presented penne with tomatoes and garlic to succulent double pork chops with caramelized apple, spinach, and garlic-whipped potatoes. The latest twists on Pacific Rim and American comfort food work wonders, even with simple Portabella mushrooms. Wildflower occasionally sells bottles of wine at half price on Tuesdays, but whenever you…

Erratic food and service

by badnight

I come to Tucson every year for the gem shows and usually eat at the Wildflower Grill at least three times, always with friends. The food is generally quite good as is the service, but there are remarkable exceptions. This year (2007) my last meal was a disaster. I ordered the aged New York steak with green peppercorn sauce. The steak was burned to a crisp and crunched in my mouth like bacon and the sauce was burned black. How the chef could have put something like this on a plate is not comprehensible. It was also served without a steak knife. When the waiter (Brendan) returned my friends were already eating so I ordered something that i thought would be quick, the meat loaf. It was quick because it was nuked and the plate was fiery hot. It had a bit of indifferent ketschup sprinkled on top, not attractive nor tasty. The waiter this time failed to give me a fork or knife. Two members of my party ordered the duck entree, and one was okay, the other dry and overcooked.

I will be very uneasy about returning to this restaurant again as will the dozens of friends to whom I have related this experience.

  • Pros: Food usually good
  • Cons: Amazing fallure in the kitchen and in the service

Good food

by paintucsonred

We initially found Wildflower when we moved to Tucson in 2003, at that time the food was good, just the right amount, and the service was prompt and courteous. The price was a bit more expensive, but worth it. However, the last time I went I was shocked at the service and the menu change. My favorite dishes were gone. It was somewhat embarrassing and very disappointing because we had raved about the place to friends who were visiting from out of town and the experience was much less than what we expected. We waited 15-25 minutes to get our orders taken, then the food took quite a while to be served. Once the food arrived, the taste was bland and one of my guests had to return her dish because it was cold, very cold. While I do enjoy lingering after dinner, I would like my check in a reasonable amout of time. We had to wait far to long to pay and leave. Overall, if it weren't for the company, I would have had one of the worst dining experiences ever. I haven't been back since, and that was a year ago (2005). Perhaps it has gotten better, but I haven't felt compelled to check it out again.

  • Pros: Outside is great, Decor is beautiful
  • Cons: wait, wait, wait
